art book cologne, founded by Bernd Detsch in 1997, is a wholesale company and specializes in buying and selling high quality publications in art, art theory, architecture, design, photography, illustrated cultural history and all related subjects internationally. Our team includes specialists in art, culture, music, book trade and media but in spite of our diversity we have one common ground: the enthusiasm for unique art books.
We purchase remaining stocks from museums, publishers and art institutions. We sell these remainders to bookstores, museum shops, and art dealers all over the world.

The American artist Roni Horn explores the complexity of identity. This volume focuses on a series of photographic portraits presented in public spaces as part of a project conceived for the Schirn.
Roni Horn (*1955), whose work was featured in major retrospectives in 2009 at venues including the Tate Modern in London and the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York, explores the theme of shifting identity. In doing so, she employs a variety of media, such as photography, sculpture, installation, drawing, and text. The artist plays with similarities and differences—particularly in photographic portraits—and in doing so explores the ambiguity of human facial expressions across a range of emotions. The face becomes a projection surface for an inner dialogue for the viewer.
